In response to statements from public health officials and Canada’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important for cannabis consumers to take the appropriate precautions in order to themselves, their families and our communities. To combat and control the effects of COVID-19 on our communities, here are some things to keep in mind in order to safely and responsibly consume cannabis.

  • Refrain from sharing smoking paraphernalia such as joints, vapes, pipes or bongs amongst others. COVID-19 can spread through respiratory droplets that are released through the air and subsequently rest on shared surfaces – such as joints, vapes, pipes and other smoking accessories.
  • Wash your hands frequently and attentively. The BC ministry of health advises using soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Instances such as after using the washroom, when you come in from outside your house and before and after preparing food are especially important. If soap and warm water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizing solution.
  • If you have symptoms, abstain from smoking for the time being. COVID-19 can cause nose, throat and lung infections. Smoking cannabis over time can impact your lung health and increase your chance of illness.
  • Maintain a safe distance of at least two metres or more from others.
  • Follow official government outlets to ensure all of your information is accurate and up-to-date. Official sources of information such as the BC Ministry of Health provide the latest information on COVID-19
